Fresh Start was established in 1994 as a Colorado non-profit organization that provided community based intervention and treatment services to delinquent and high risk youth involved in the juvenile justice system and/or child welfare. It operated as an Adolescent Day Treatment Program and was licensed as an Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Treatment program. In addition, there was an on-site academic program approved by the Colorado Department of Education.
In 2005, Fresh Start became the lead agency of the Capitol Hill-Central Denver Family to Family Collaborative program to build neighborhood services and resources that keep children safe, promoting healthy and stable families.
In 2008, a generous offer for the Fresh Start building and property was accepted by the Fresh Start Board of Directors After careful deliberation, the Board decided against relocating the day treatment and onsite school program. As a result of a strategic planning process, in 2010 Fresh Start’s new mission that refocuses its work with adolescents to a mission that is more family and community centered. During this time period Fresh Start assisted numerous Family programs, often hand in hand with the city of Denver and other family focused organizations.
As our involvement in the Sun Valley community continued to deepen Fresh Start began an active search for location that would house our programming the Sun Valley community. In 2013 we moved into our new location on Holden avenue and opened our doors (and urban garden) to the community.
