FS’s board of directors guide the organization and provide hands-on assistance in program planning, marketing, fund raising and service delivery. FS’s board of directors leverage their strengths to ensure that families, children and youth get the services they need when they need them. FS’s Board of Director strengths’ range from youth adoption services to marketing.
The following paragraphs introduce Fresh Start’s board of directors staff.
Elissa Hammel
Elissa Hammel graduated from Eckerd College, in St. Petersburg, Florida in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and a Minor in Psychology with emphasis in Adolescents.
Prior to moving to Colorado, Mrs. Hammel worked in Rhode Island as an Adoption and Permanency Coordinator for Adoption Rhode Island (ARI), a non-profit state supported agency dedicated to finding permanent homes for the many children in state care. Currently, Mrs. Hammel volunteers her time with Denver Children’s Hospital and the CCP Leadership Council.
Kristina Richens
Kristina brings 16 years of executive sales experience to her role as a board member. She is the “Minister of Commerce” or Director of Sales for The Republic of Tea. Her passion for tea aligns with her aspirations to build healthy families through the efforts of Fresh Start. Kristina graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in Economics.
The Republic of Tea is mindful of how its actions impact the greater community and actively supports worthy organizations like Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the Prostate Cancer Foundation, Room to Read and The Ethical Tea Partnership. As a member of the Board of Directors of Fresh Start, Kristina brings her experience and expertise to board activities.
Mike Miller
Mike Miller graduated from the Ohio State University with a degree in Finance and graduated from the Executive MBA Program at the University of Colorado. Mike has spent his career working on innovative projects in Real Estate and Resort Development, Hotels and Club Services, Technology, and Marketing. Eight years after founding and leading his own a creative marketing and technology agency, East West Technology, Mike joined East West Partners in Riverfront Park to build the Glass House, possibly one of the most successful Urban Development projects. Then hooked on the urban lifestyle and infill development Mike eventually founded Urban Brain Inc. where Mike consults and works with clients (and Fresh Start) on their creative projects. Despite his education and experience in finance, his most treasured learning was through his studies in Improv and Writing at the Second City in Chicago. Mike has been a speaker with the Urban Land Institute, a blind skier guide with Foresight Ski Guides, and a volunteer with teen suicide prevention.
